English Prepositions
P repositions , Phrasal Prepositions and Prepositional Idioms have always beendifficult for the learners of English throughout language learning. Thesefunctionally important words may cause some problems for a learner to acquirethe meaning of the phrases and idioms. However, this problem caused byprepositions cannot be overcome by memorizing those words, phrases and idioms.They should be studied and learned with their meanings in various contexts.
Some hints before studying Prepositions, Phrasal Prepositions and PrepositionalIdioms:
v Donot consider the prepositions meaningful words when studied without context.Pay attention to their relations with the other words in sentences.
v Rememberthat each preposition may have a neighboring word and may gain meaning withthem.
v Presumablyyou can use your imagination while learning the prepositions in context.
v Donot look for the exact meaning of the prepositions in Turkish but try to learnthe equivalent contextual meaning in the sentence.
v Rememberthat prepositions with phrases and idioms will have a different meaning in thesentence. So, try to learn its original contextual meaning; do not try to guessits meaning by looking at the word it is used with.
